People | Trevor Young

Trevor is a rarity in the marketing and public relations business – a potent blend of the ‘old’ (traditional) and the ‘new’ way of doing things.

An ex-journalist schooled in the traditional ways of PR, he has over the years extended his base of knowledge considerably by undertaking industry-based studies in advertising and direct marketing.

Far from standing still, Trevor closely follows the seismic change occurring in the media and marketing industry and has for a number of years fully immersed himself in the ever-changing world of social media – including blogging, podcasting and social networking – in an effort to better provide his clients with pragmatic advice about the new and exciting ways in which companies and organisations can communicate and engage with consumers, influencers and stakeholders.

Prior to parkyoung

Prior to joining forces with David Park, Trevor spent 10 years managing one of Melbourne’s leading marketing communications agencies, Spark PR Pty Ltd. He co-founded Spark in 1998 with one other partner and is also a former director and co-founder of brand experience agency, Ignition Marketing. Spark was acquired by the publicly-listed Mitchell Communication Group in October, 2006.

Trevor has worked as a senior consultant with major firms Porter Novelli and The Rowland Company, guest lectured at RMIT and Monash University, taught PR subjects part-time at Box Hill TAFE and Swinburne University of Technology, and regularly presents at industry forums and conferences – recent speaking engagements on social media have included Packaging Council of Australia, Leadership Victoria and The Churchill Club. He also sits on the brand advisory committee of Reach Foundation and is a founding committee member of Social Media Club Melbourne.
