David Park, well known around the traps as ‘Parky’, has 20 years’ experience in corporate affairs: both in-house and consultancy. As a communications strategist he brings solid planning skills to the table. His take on social media and corporations, encapsulated in the e-Book ‘Reputation Renegade’, is professionally provocative.
Atypically, David entered PR via an urban planning background which gave him strengths in strategy development, public policy and social marketing.
He worked in government planning roles in major projects in South Australia, NSW and then Queensland. He then ‘went corporate’ and became the first Public Affairs Manager for Castlemaine Perkins Brewery in Queensland: he was the envy of every PR north of the Tweed!
David was later promoted to Director of Media Relations for Lion Nathan Australia based in Melbourne. In Victoria, David has since spent two separate periods working for public relations consultancies, first for three years with a major Melbourne firm where he provided communications counsel at CEO level on corporate transition projects (e.g. AWB Limited, AXA Australia).
After five and a half years in corporate again at Foster’s Group, David then spent two and a half years working as a consultant with a major Queensland PR consultancy setting up in Melbourne.
From 2000 to 2005 David worked for Foster’s Australia. His major role at the beverage group was as Communications and Policy Manager. In this position David developed and implemented the company’s ‘Enjoy Responsibly’ corporate responsibility initiative.
He also project-managed the PR for several major company initiatives including a national supply-chain change and the takeover of Southcorp. David’s communications’ experience has been strengthened by regular exposure as the spokesperson for major high-profile, controversial, issues-rich businesses and projects.
By promoting (and sometimes launching) some of Australia’s most well-known FMCG brands, David has also gained a well-developed, hands-on understanding of brands and markets and, importantly, communications that work in support of them.
David’s approach is based on post-graduate qualifications in planning and professional experience in market research.
