How to Trigger a World Wide Rave For Your brand

The parkyoung bosses David and Trevor went to a Masterclass with the master David Meerman Scott, author of best selling books World Wide Rave and The New Rules of Marketing and PR.

This week I borrowed a copy of World Wide Rave from the parkyoung David. Here is my perspective through the eyes of a young practitioner. There is a massive over share of information about social web communications for PR and marketing. I am constantly filtering and filing away thoughts and ideas, trying to put them in some kind of order.

World Wide Rave is an eloquent refresher of major things I’ve learned so far: –

  • Tell stories that can be shared (offer free content)
  • Sharing empowers the people
  • The people will drive your message to success

… but only if you are willing to lose control.

This strategic direction can be achieved using tactical props such as free e-books, YouTube, Twitter, blogging, Facebook, tagging and your story may even get picked up by traditional media. World Wide Rave details the ‘Rules of the Rave’ in a logical order with case studies to illustrate each point.

These rules are re-capped on the final page (182):

  • Nobody cares about your products (except you).
  • No coercion required.
  • Lose control.
  • Put down roots.
  • Create triggers that encourage people to share.
  • Point the world to your (virtual) doorstep.

Make noise by giving people something to get loud about. Then sit back, turn up the dial and enjoy the sound of collaboration. Sharing is caring. And people love a good story.
