A Look at the World’s Changing Media Landscape

Here’s an interesting, well-produced video that weaves together in narrative form an array of facts and statistics that demonstrates just how far the media landscape has evolved, with a focus on convergence and technology. The video was produced by information design consultancy XPLANE for The Economist Media Convergence Forum in New York.

cluetrain At parkyoung we’re devotees of The Cluetrain Manifesto: The End of Business as Usual.

As professional communicators, it spells out a lot of the challenges we face in the ever-evolving hyper-connected commercial environment in which we operate.

Rather than run away and hide from these challenges, we’d prefer to immerse in this fast-emerging online culture, explore it further with a view to offering clients sound counsel based on our research and experiences.

The Cluetrain Manifesto is a set of 95 theses organised and put forward as a manifesto, or call to action, for all businesses operating within what is suggested to be a newly-connected marketplace. The ideas put forward within the manifesto aim to examine the impact of the internet on both markets (consumers) and organisations.

The authors Rick Levine, Christopher Locke, Doc Searles and David Weinberger were spot-on with many of their observations and predictions. A decade later, their pronouncements ring true with an astounding clarity that’s hard to ignore.

Give people something to talk about!

“To provoke conversations, have something interesting to talk about” - Lois Kelly (author, Beyond Buzz)

We live in an era where people do not want to be shouted at any more. Instead, they crave dialogue and interaction. They want to do business with brands and organisations that listen and share, participate and engage in genuine conversation.

To do that successfully, you can’t simply throw your message out there and expect people to listen. You need to identify and develop ‘spheres of conversation’ that can be used throughout the organisation, from the ‘C’ suite through to marketing and sales and beyond.

David Park and Trevor Young provide strategy and communications designed to help companies and organisations find their voice. They develop relevant conversation themes that resonate with your target audience and give them something to talk about. By taking a fresh look at your communications strategy they can better equip it for a rapidly hyper-connecting market.

To find out how ‘conversational marketing’ can make a difference to your business, contact Trevor Young (0412 368 683) or David Park (0418 159 231).
